John Ryan leaves ArenaNet for new writing position at Bungie; developer still has 73 open positions.

Destiny

With lots more Destiny content in the pipeline, developer Bungie is continuing to hire new talent. The latest developer to join Bungie’s ranks is John Ryan, who has left his post at Guild Wars 2 developer ArenaNet to become a “loremaster” for multiplayer shooter Destiny.

Ryan announced the news on Twitter, confirming that today, February 13, is his final day at ArenaNet. He didn’t say when he plans to start at Bungie, but presumably it will be soon.

Ryan is a writing veteran. He spent 5+ years at ArenaNet, working on lore, narrative, dialogue, and more for Guild Wars 2. Prior to that, he held writing positions at Microsoft Game Studios as well as various media publications, including MSNBC.

Bungie isn’t done hiring yet. The Bellevue, Washington-based studio has a total of 73 open positions posted to its website. These span a range of disciplines, including art, design, engineering, production, and others.

The next expansion for Destiny, House of Wolves, is scheduled to arrive sometime during the April-June period. Looking further forward, Bungie also plans to launch a “major content release” for Destiny power leveling this fall. Further still, Bungie is maybe even working on Destiny 2.
