The next big update for Fallout 76 has landed on the PTS, where players can try out the new Legendary Crafting system, as well as other changes including weapon and balance adjustments.
Bethesda has updated the Fallout 76 PTS to welcome the online service game’s 20th major update, Milepost Zero, which will be released later this year and will mark the start of the game’s 18th season since its initial release in 2018. Following last month’s Skyline Valley expansion, Milepost Zero will continue a series of major updates for Fallout 76, with the next chapter changing and adding core game mechanics such as Legendary Crafting as well as other content, including the return of Mischief Night.
Fire/Poison Weapons and Mods
To go along with the above changes to fire and poison DoTs, a large number of weapons and mods have been rebalanced, including the Flamethrower, cheap Holy Fire, Baseball Bat Heat Coil, Plasma Cutter Flame Blade, Poison Goat Horn, Big Blast, Pumpkin Grenade, and more. In addition to weapon rebalances, a range of creatures, including the Deathclaw, have been rebalanced, and creature weapons have been rebalanced. If you want to get these weapons as soon as possible, you can choose to buy caps for fallout 76. In addition, the following skill changes have been implemented:
- Vaccination: Increases disease resistance to all sources based on your END stat.
- Thirst Quencher: Increases action points when not diseased based on your END stat.
- Iron Stomach: Increases damage reduction when not diseased based on your END stat.
- Nature Resistance: Increases your Energy, Fire, Ice, and Poison resistance when not diseased based on your END stat.
Milepost Zero
One of the main features of Milepost Zero is that players can build their own caravans. This feature is not currently included in the PTS, but Bethesda says it will be added later this month. Mischief Night will also return in Chapter 18, with a new location located in Rapidan Camp. The Mischief Night public event includes Halloween-themed rewards and will rotate with the new Daily Operations map. Other features of the Milepost Zero update in the PTS include:
Legendary Crafting
Bethesda’s new method of legendary crafting is designed to give players “more direct control over the Legendary Mods on Legendary items.” Legendary Particles are a new crafting component that can be used to craft Legendary Mods and spend Legendary Mods to exchange them for Legendary items, and can be obtained by disenchanting Legendary items or trading with other Fallout 76 players. Before players can start adding Legendary Mods to their items, they need to obtain it by trading with other players or disenchanting Legendary items with that mod – every time you disenchant a Legendary item, you will receive Particles and a chance to learn one of the Legendary Mods on that item.
Best Builds
The new social update called Best Builds implements a system that allows players to submit, visit, and rate submitted CAMPs. With Best Builds, players “will be able to visit these amazing creations and enjoy the comfort, design, and unique taste that builders prepare for visitors,” while also allowing players to leave “likes” on the creations they visit.
Combat Balance
Skyline Valley continues to update Fallout 76’s combat system, making changes to where fire and poison damage comes from, and how damage over time (DoT) effects work. General updates here include:
- Adjustments to damage modifiers for creature weaknesses. This will result in additional damage to creatures with weapons that have lower single-shot damage.
- Damage over time effects now scale with weapon damage.
- Fixed a number of inconsistencies with certain damage effects (mostly damage over time) dealing the wrong damage type or unclassified damage without corresponding resistances.
- Fixed an issue with player-inflicted damage over time effects not matching the level of a creature.
- Fixed an issue where certain effects (such as damage over time and the Vampire Legend mod) could stack when applied multiple times simultaneously to a single target. This happens most often with shotguns, but can also happen when using the Two Shot Legendary Mod or Multi-Shot Cremator Mod in VATS.
The full list of changes implemented in Milepost Zero, including a list of known issues, can be found in Bethesda’s official announcement Milepost Zero has not yet announced an official release date, but we know the update will be released sometime in September.
